How I work

I’ve learned that real solutions require real upfront knowledge, the iterative process I outlined below follows the journey I take for any type of project. However, every project has different needs and I find that customizing the process based on the project makes it truly successful.

Here’s an overview of what to expect when we work together.

Learn as much as possible

I approach any problem by trying to understand: who is our audience, what are their behaviors, and how do they solve their problem currently?

There are numerous methods by which I gather these insights, whether it’s through surveys, social listening, influencer talks, analytical data, user interviews, or field research. These result in artifacts such as personas and user journeys to inform our solution throughout the process

By developing a knowledge base, we can design the best solutions possible

Design smart

I often take full days to sketch, collaborate with stakeholders and then sketch more. Are they pretty? No. Do they work? Yes.

From the sketches I bring my work into a design program (currently Figma) to build out the solution utilizing the latest design standards and trends. This includes ensuring the solution is accessible for all users. I am experienced designing solutions using established design systems or customizing it myself.

Test with all parties

Build that prototype, whether it’s Figma or a plain old paper prototype. I build it out, show it to users, stakeholders and clients to get feedback. Sometimes I hit the mark, but sometimes I need to go back to the white board in order to improve – but that’s OK, that’s how we learn.

Once we’ve reached a solution with stakeholders, users and myself, I move to collaborate the solution with development partners

Gather results, improve

I will then gather quantitative and qualitative insights. This helps me iterate and improve on solutions. Nothing is perfect, but these post creation insights will help us find gaps in our current designs and new problems to solve, which in the end, creates a better experience for our users.
